Professor Anlong XU, President of the Hong Kong Advanced Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University
Professor Anlong Xu is a leading figure in the field of immunology and biomedical science, currently serving as the Dean of the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong (2024-). Over the course of his career, he has held several key academic and administrative positions, including President of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (2013-2024), Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University (2008-2013), Dean of the School of Life Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University (2000-2008), and Director of both the State Key Laboratory of Biological Control and the National Engineering Research Center for Marine Biotechnology in the South China Sea.
Professor Xu’s research focuses on the formation of human immune diversity, with the aim on the treatment of immune-related diseases. His work has contributed significantly to the mechanistic understanding of human immune defense systems, which may potentially leaf lead to therapeutic development. He has led more than a dozen national-level research projects and has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award and multiple First Prizes in science and technology from Guangdong province. His research findings have been published in many leading international journals, including Cell, Nature, Nat Cell Biol, Cell Res, Cell Rep, EMBO J, and JCI. Professor Xu is also known for building strong interdisciplinary and translational platforms and promoting the integration of Chinese medicine with Western medicine.
