The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) supports programmes and projects to increase the safety and security of the world’s food supply. World Food Congresses are organised, every two years to stimulate the ongoing exchange of knowledge in those scientific disciplines and technologies relating to the expansion, improvement, distribution and conservation of the world’s food supply. Twenty-One World Congresses of Food Science and Technology have now been convened. London, UK 1962; Warsaw, Poland 1966; Washington, USA 1970; Madrid, Spain, 1974; Kyoto, Japan, 1978; Dublin, Ireland 1983; Singapore 1987, Toronto 1991, Budapest, Hungary, 1995; Sydney, Australia 1999; Seoul, Korea 2001; Chicago, USA 2003; Nantes, France 2006; Shanghai, China 2008; Cape Town, South Africa 2010; Iguassu Falls, Brazil 2012; Montreal, Canada 2014; Dublin, Ireland 2016; and Mumbai, India 2018. The 2020 World Food Congress, which was to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, was cancelled because of the global pandemic. 2022 World Food Congress was held in Singapore and the 2024 congress will be in Rimini, Italy - 8 - 12 September 2024.
Thousands of food science and technology professionals attend the IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology (World Food Congress), held every two years in different locations around the world. IUFoST partners with its national scientific body (Adhering Body) to host these world-class events, which promote the advancement of global food science and technology and foster the worldwide exchange of scientific knowledge and ideas.
Each World Food Congress features a theme addressed by dynamic programming that attracts renowned speakers and panelists from industry, government and academia to participate in plenary lectures, parallel sessions, special interest groups and working groups addressing current issues and hot topics. Competitions attract early career and young scientists and food science and technology students, and thousands of abstracts are submitted for consideration for inclusion in the programme. Delegates can visit exhibitors presenting the latest in products, services and technology and meet researchers to learn more about their cutting-edge projects during the Poster sessions.
