On the occasion of World Food Day on Oct 16, 2026, a vital global observance dedicated to advancing food security and awareness worldwide, we, the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) invite everyone to recognize and honour the pivotal role of food scientists and technologists globally. They serve as the essential driving force transforming our food systems to become safer, more universally accessible, and capable of nurturing and delivering good health to all mankind.

Food is far more than daily sustenance; it is the cornerstone of human health, dignity, and sustainable development. In an era marked by complex global challenges, food scientists around the globe are working hard to meet increasing expectations for a better world across three primary pillars:

• Food Safety: Establishing rigorous inspection, surveillance, and risk management frameworks across the entire supply chain, ensuring that food reaching every table is safe, wholesome, and compliant with the highest global standards.
• Innovative Processing & Ingredient Development: Pioneering high-efficiency processing technologies to preserve essential nutrition, minimize food loss, and develop novel ingredients that enhance health while expanding nutritional choices worldwide.
• Regulatory & Policy Drive: Fostering strategic alignment among academia, government, and industry to champion progressive policies and regulatory frameworks that ensure equitable food distribution, system resilience, and long-term environmental sustainability.
