Representatives from more than 90 countries participated in the 2016 IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology, Dublin, Ireland, August 21-25, 2016. Over 80 keynote plenary and keynote sessions speakers discussed issues/challenges and interests in theme areas, and more than 250 scientific, industry and policy experts spoke. The programme focused on themes including food innovation, nutrition and health, future food, food sustainability and food safety. Hot topics sessions identified new and emerging trends in important food sectors such as meat, dairy, seafood and consumer foods. Communications around policy in national, regional and international government, between industry and academia and with the consumer were a focal point.
A full schedule of pre-Congress workshops and committee meetings was open to all IUFoST Adhering Bodies, Committee members, Regional Groups, Fellows and Congress attendees: Aflatoxin Management Workshop; Food Chemistry Division meeting; Distance Assisted Training programme meeting; Fresh Produce, Religious, Ethnic and Ethical Working Group meetings; Early Career Scientists/Young Scientists session; Regional Consultation for the Global Food Safety Curricula Initiative.
The Inaugural Global Food Summit attracted attendees from government, industry and academia to address key areas affecting global food security and the actions needed to address them. Government, non-governmental organisations and scientists across the spectrum addressed the global issues of sustainability and food security and agreed that inter-disciplinary work and consultations are necessary to ensure progress that will have a lasting impact.
The Food Industry Forum, award ceremonies, competitions, poster exhibits, exhibition hall and social events uniquely Irish completed the Congress programme and meeting of those involved with IUFoST’s ongoing work in committees/taskforce and commissions.
