27 November 2023 - As the Codex Alimentarius Commission celebrates its 60th Anniversary and meets today to begin its 46th session in adopting food safety and quality standards, the International Union of Food Science and Technology, IUFoST, offers its heartfelt congratulations on these past 60 years.
The Codex family commitment to ensuring food is safe for everyone, everywhere, through the development of food standards, guidelines and codes of practice that have an impact on the safety or quality of our food always has been its dedicated mission.
IUFoST would like to stress the importance of Codex as a forum that brings together nations and levels the playing field between all consumers on the planet, through the development of measures that protect consumer health and their economic well-being globally, that offer guidance to food producers of all sizes and capacities and enable fair practices in the trade of food and agri-food commodities.
IUFoST, as an observer in Codex, and through its national scientific bodies globally, and Fellows of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) and its partners, reiterates the commitment of its food science and technology community to accompanying the efforts of global and regional standards development with efforts of mobilization and stimulating the contribution from the science and technology community.
