IUFoST Announces Lifetime Achievement Award Winner

3 June 2026 - The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) today announces Dr. Aman Wirakartakusumah as the winner of the prestigious IUFoST Lifetime Achievement Award. The recognition of this outstanding scientist will take place during the 23rd World Congress of Food Science and Technology, Hong Kong, SAR in October this year.

The Lifetime Achievement Award honours Dr. Aman Wirakartakusumah for his pre-eminence in and contributions to the field of Food Science and Technology. Recipients of this award have made significant contributions to scientific knowledge with impact in areas such as food safety; food quality; human nutrition; product, process, and package innovation; food security (availability, accessibility, affordability); consumer acceptability; communication of food science and technology and regulations, or a combination of them; actions to improve Food Science and Technology education or dissemination in the country and around the world. The Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges a body of work that has influenced Food Science and Technology over the course of a career.

Dr. Aman Warakartakusumah was nominated by his peers who highlighted his lifetime contribution to Food Science and Technology  “distinguished by (i) enduring scientific and educational influence in food process engineering and food technology, (ii) sustained leadership in food safety and nutrition governance and standards, and (iii) global professional service that advanced education, capacity-building, and science-to-policy translation across multiple decades and regions”. Another referenced that “at the national and regional levels, he has been a pivotal architect of Indonesia’s food policies - serving as Advisor to the Minister of National Development Planning on strategic programs like school meals and the formulation of National Food Laws - while strengthening safety frameworks through Codex Alimentarius and ASEAN food standards harmonization. Furthermore, his international credibility based on his scientific excellence, educational leadership, and dedicated service to the global food science community is underscored by high-level advisory roles for the UN Secretary-General and the FAO Director-General on sustainable food systems”.

His peers conclude that Dr. Aman Wirakartakusumah “exemplifies the spirit of the IUFoST Lifetime Achievement Award. His career reflects not only outstanding scientific accomplishment, but also visionary leadership, regional solidarity, and global service. His legacy is evident in stronger institutions, empowered professionals, and a more connected international food science community.  

To honour these exceptional career achievements and the huge contributions he has made to the discipline, Professor Aman Wirakartakusumah is the recipient of the 2026 IUFoST Lifetime Achievement Award.
