The Codex Alimentarius Committee (Codex) has published the conference room document (CRD) containing comments by the International Union for Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) an observer organization of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, and its disciplinary organization, the Global Food Regulatory Science Society (GFoRSS), on various agenda items tabled at the 17th Session of the Codex Committee on Contaminants in Food (CCCF17), Panama City, Panama. 

IUFoST comments are expressed to aid in the connection between Codex and science, based on its global scientific expertise and competencies.  Related to the Contaminants in Food 17 session, IUFoST comments on the following:

  • maximum levels of lead in certain food categories,  
  • sampling plans for methylmercury in fish
  • definition for ready-to-eat peanuts for the establishment of a maximum level for total aflatoxins
  • Code of practice/guidelines for the prevention or reduction of ciguatera poisoning
  • Discussion paper on Lead and Cadmium in Quinoa 
  • Discussion Paper on the Review of the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Reduction of Aflatoxin Contamination in Peanuts
  • Discussion Paper on Review of the Code of Practice for the Reducation of Aflatoxin B1 in Raw Materials and Supplemental Feedingstuffs for Milk-producing Animals
  • Development of a Code of practice for the prevention and reducation of cadmium contamination in foods

IUFoST comments in its CRD, tabled at the 54th Session of the Codex Committee on Food Additives that took place earlier this week in Chengdhu, China are expressed to aid in the connection between Codex and science, based on IUFoST’s global scientific expertise and competences.  Related to the Food Additives 54th session, IUFoST comments on the following:
