Ruth Oniang’o is Professor of Food and Nutritional Sciences. She is educated in the USA and Kenya (Washington State University Pullman and University of Nairobi), founder and Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development (AJFAND), founder and Director of Rural Outreach Africa, an NGO working to uplift the lives of resource poor smallholder farmers, especially women, and creating jobs for the young. She has served in advisory capacity for various UN agencies, the World Bank, Kenya Government and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is board member of Nestle, a global food, beverage and wellness company, she has served on IRRI, CIAT, IFDC, ACIAR and micronutrient initiative boards and as Vice-Chair of GFAR (Global Forum for Agricultural Research); now serves on Montpellier Panel, and chairs Sasakawa Africa Association and Sasakawa Africa Fund for Extension Education Boards. Ruth is also a winner of two national medals in Kenya, 2014 IFAMA (International Food and Agribusiness Management Association) award for a lifetime of distinguished service and 2014 Fortune magazine’s ’30 Women Achievers’ globally in Food and Drink. Ruth is President of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST).
Paul Singh is a Distinguished Professor of Food Engineering, University of California, Davis, USA. Professor Singh’s teaching and research is concerned with developing a quantitative understanding of food processes. Professor Singh is a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, and the International Academy of Food Science and Technology. He has published 14 books and over 240 refereed papers. Dr. Singh is an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He is a recipient of the Kishida International Award and Farrall Young Educator Award (ASABE); Distinguished Food Engineering Award (DFISA); Nicholas Appert Award, International Award and Samuel Cate Prescott Award for Research (IFT). Currently, he serves as an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Food Engineering. Paul is President Elect of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST).
Delia Rodriguez-Amaya is Senior Visiting Professor at Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, Emeritus Researcher of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Advancement, Scientific Adviser of the International Foundation for Science, member of the Editorial Boards of six international and two Brazilian journals. She was Professor of the Faculty of Food Engineering, University of Campinas, Brazil, where she was Chairman of the Department of Food Science, General Coordinator of the Graduate Programs, Coordinator of the Academic Council and adviser of 48 defended Master and Doctoral theses. She coordinated more than 25 interuniversity and University of Campinas research projects, financed by international and Brazilian foundations. She was research fellow of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Advancement, in the highest category, for twenty years. She is the author of more than 250 scientific publications (books, book chapters, review and research papers). She participated in FAO-WHO Expert Consultation Meetings, international projects such as HarvestPlus (International Biofortification Program) and VitaAfrica, and technical committees of the Brazilian Ministries of Education, Health, Science and Technology, and the Environment. She received numerous awards, including the Presidential Award Philippine Heritage, East-West Center Distinguished Alumni Award, 100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World, University of Campinas Recognition Award for excellence in teaching and research (3 times), Brazilian Society of Food Science and Technology’s Andre Tosello Award, Philippine Association of Food Technologists’ 50th Anniversary Award, De La Salle – Araneta University Outstanding Alumna Award. She holds a B.S. in Food Technology (Araneta University, Philippines, Magna Cum Laude), M.S. in Food Science (University of Hawaii, East West Center Professional Awardee for High Scholastic Achievement), and Ph.D. in Agricultural Chemistry (University of California – Davis, Board of Regents’ fellow). Delia is Past President of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST).
Been-Huang Chiang obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Food Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1983, and then became a faculty member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, National Taiwan University. He became a full professor in 1988, and was elected as a Distinguished Professor by the university in 2007. He has served many administrative positions in the university, including the Director of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, Dean of the College of Bio-resources and Agriculture, Director of General Education, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Professor Been-Huang Chiang was appointed by the Taiwan government as a Minister without portfolio for science, technology and food safety affairs in March 2014. He then served as the Minister of Health and Welfare from October 2014 to May 2016. Professor Chiang has received many awards from the National Taiwan University, including Outstanding Research & Innovation Award, Outstanding Administrative Service Award, and Excellent in Teaching Award. He has also won Outstanding Research Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology. And received two service medals from Taiwan government. Been-Huang is a Councillor of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST).
Alastair Hicks is an Elected Fellow, International Academy of Food Science and Technology (FIAFoST); a Life Fellow, Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (FAIFST); an Honorary Fellow, Food Science and Technology Association of Myanmar (FoSTAM); and a Life Member, Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand (FoSTAT). As special envoy for the Federation of Institutes of Food Science and Technology in ASEAN (FIFSTA) he enabled formation of four Associations, Brunei Darussalam (BAFST); Cambodia (CAFST); Myanmar (FoSTAM ; Vietnam (VAFST) as IUFoST Adhering Bodies. He served with FAO/UN Rome HQ, and FAO Senior Regional Agroindustry and Postharvest Officer in Asia/Pacific, for two decades and 150+ country missions; then adjunct professor Mae Fah Luang U, visiting academic Mahidol U, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; visiting professor Yangon U. of Technology, Myanmar; Saigon Technical U., CanTho U., Vietnam. Earlier as expert food engineer at IFRPD Kasetsart U., Thailand; visiting fellow, U.South Pacific, Samoa; lecturer, U.Western Sydney, Australia; with H.J.Heinz (London) and Unilever (Sydney) in management, food product & process development. His professional interests are international food consultancy, and tertiary education; he has lived/worked/travelled in 6 continents, is an African-born Australian citizen, honoured to serve as Councillor IAFoST.
