Early Career Scientist Section – Inaugural Committee Announced

The members of the Early Career Scientist Section Inaugural Committee have been announced by the Academy Executive Council. This committee will lead in developing the structure and activities of this new section of the Academy. The ECS Section was formed to promote high standards of ethics and scientific endeavour among food scientists and technologists and to formalize a relationship for the young scientists selected to speak at the IUFoST World Food Congresses, chosen for exemplifying the best in young science from among nominations by IUFoST Adhering Bodies and members worldwide.

News Brief 2

8th International Food Safety Forum, Beijing, China

Dr. Karl Schebesta, Chief, Food Systems and Nutrition Division, Department of Agri-Business, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), leads the international programme as keynote speaker at the 8th International Food Safety Forum to be held from April 18 to 21 in Beijing, China, at the Friendship Hotel. The Forum is widely considered to be the highest-level meeting on food safety in China “due to its outstanding achievements and great influences”. The pre-Forum workshops on April 18 and 19 include one offered by China FDA and a workshop developed by members of the International Commission for Microbiological Specifications of Food (ICMSF), one of IUFoST’s Disciplinary Groups, and sponsored by Walmart.

CODEX Regional Consultation and IUFoST Events in Kenya

IUFoST was invited to participate in a series of meetings held in Nairobi, Kenya in conjunction with the 22nd Session of FAO/WHO Regional CODEX Coordinating Committee for Africa (CCAFRICA) from January 16-20.

Food Safety Symposium
Dr. George Ooko Abong’, Food Science and Technology Platform of Kenya (FoSTeP-K, IUFoST adhering body), chaired a one-day Food Safety Symposium on January 19, organized by FoSTeP-K with support from IUFoST. IUFoST African Adhering Body members from Zambia, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda and Senegal participated.
